Legendary: DONOVAN ‘CITY ROCKAS’

One of Bristol’s original foundation DJ’s Donovan Jackson, part of the legendary City Rockas, which was originally formed back in 1983. The DJ’s were  Donovan and his brother Tee, and their cousin Loui P and with their younger brothers Joey Jay & Double Jay later also started DJing  as young City Rockas.

Though their love of music the crew started buying vinyl from an early age and by their 20’s they DJ’d alongside others at many clubs in and around Bristol like the Tropic Club, Mozart’s, Vadims, Mayfair, Western Star Domino , as well as the many underground house parties in St. Paul’s.

They could be found playing on pirate stations such as Emergency Radio & Black FM. They held one of the iconic Soul Nights in Bristol when they brought the late Joyce Sims to Trinity Centre as a late replacement for Gwen McCrare (RIP).
